“Chinese Medicine, at its core, operates on the principle that the human body is a microcosm mirroring the macrocosm of the earth and heavens. As such, understanding the relationship between the human being and the landscape becomes crucial for understanding and treating health. The channel system and its functions are analogous to streams and rivers, influenced by location and weather. However, to fully grasp the interconnectedness of life, we must consider the celestial dimension, integrating time, astronomy, and astrology into our understanding of health and disease.”
—Anne Shelton Crute, LAc, DAOM
This year, Dr. Anne Shelton Crute was invited to contribute a chapter to an exciting new book project, “A Ring Without End: Reflections on Classical Chinese Medicine Mind/Body Mapping”. This book is authored by our dear friends and Chinese Medicine mentors, Z’ev Rosenberg and Stephen Cowan.
Dr. Anne’s chapter is titled “The Celestial Dance: Integrating Time and Astronomy in Chinese Medicine”. Here she explores the relationship between the human being and the macrocosmic landscape of the earth and heavens. Dr. Anne delves into classical texts, archeological evidence, and ancient Chinese philosophy to illuminate the ancestral view of time and its relevance for people today. This work is a journey of dragons and star maps, unveiling an ancient view of the heavens and humanity's place in the cosmos.
